Safety Tips
Home and outside child dangers linked to age.
Did you know boys are twice as likely as girls to have an accident.

Birth to crawling babies 0-6 months age.
Babies learn new skills very quickly. If you know what your baby
can do at each stage, as they grow and develop, you can think
ahead to keep your baby safe.
During the first few months most babies learn to:
• Wriggle and roll over
• Kick and push
• Put things in their mouth
Rolling /crawling/ walking 6months to 18 months. At this age babies can move faster and reach higher. This means that babies can get into danger very quickly.

Toddler’s 18months-2years. Children at this age are busy, curious and full of energy. Around one year most babies learn to walk and over the next few months they learn to run and climb, open doors, draws and bottles. This means your toddler can get into places and things that used to be out of reach. They are too young to remember and understand about danger e.g. crossing the road.

Pre-school children 3years- 5years and six year olds.
Children at this age can begin to learn about safety, but still they don’t
always understand or remember safety rules. Story books with safety messages
and pictures are the best way to learn about safety at this age.
